The US House of Representatives has passed a bill that could mean the end of the TikTok in the Unites States. The governing body has given ByteDance, the social media’s parent company, six months to sell its controlling stake. Otherwise, the app will not be available in the country.
The bill has passed with an overwhelm majority in favor. However, it still needs to be approved by the Senate and be signed by the president to become a law.
According to the lawmakers, these efforts were made due to the possibility of influence by China in the platform. The current owner of TikTok, ByteDance, is a Chinese company founded in 2012.
Even though the firm is based in Beijing, it also has offices across Europe and the US. Besides that, it is registered in the Cayman Islands.
If the bill is approved by the Senate, President Biden has already confirmed that he will sign it as soon as it lands on his desk.
This decision by the US Government makes influencers from all-over the country rethink their strategies on social media. Nowadays, TikTok is the fastest-growing social media on the planet as generates a considerable part of digital content creators income in the country.
However, there will still be other options for those seeking the production of short-form content, such as Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.
